CNET has reviewed the Motorola International 7500 cell phone, which, if you don't know, is a 14 year old GSM 900MHz handset, and it can't send texts. No app store, no WiFi, but more importantly, with 14-year-old battery technology, it'll still hold its charge longer than the iPhone.

asks:
"How do i keep my cell phone battery up and runinng for along time?(do i recharge it every 2-3 hours Or wait until the battery dies and do a full recharge?)"
joshim982003 replies:
'If you have got a new phone it will take a few charge and discharge cycles to get it to its full capacity. Charging your phones battery when it is not nearly empty decreases the life of you battery. For best results charge it when the battery is empty or nearly empty.'
MINION replies:
'First use all of its energy- and i mean all, then recharge it fully and it again for at least 3 times, it should last longer , but its possible the company could have had energy submitter, might have 2 get a better 1.'

asks:
"i have a blackberry pear from cingular. the battery completely died and now when i plug it in the charger it either does nothinh or displayed a screen with a dead battery and a red dash through it, implying that i have a dead battery. do cell phone batteries just die completely? will cingular give me a new one?and is it easy to get a new battery?*** not phone"
andy t replies:
'unfortunately yes they do my guess is its a lithium ion battery - it has a charge control circuit built into the battery itself and if it detects a fault, it's game over I'm afraid!in terms of getting a replacement - you can try you may be lucky if its relatively new but its a bit like getting your car dealer to fill your car with petrol isn't it?'
Kamui VII replies:
'you ahve a 1 year manfacterer warranty.. so you might want to contact RIM NOT Cigular....But to make it faster and less of a hassle... go to your local Cigular store and buy a new battery... there like 40-60$$and yes phone batteries can die... RIP to your battery'
jj.mcintosh replies:
'They do. We have had many of our batteries do that with our razrs from cingular. They will not give you another. You will have to buy one.'
Debbie H replies:
'Yes, cell phone batteries can die completely beyond repair. Your provider should be able to help, but you will probably have to buy a new battery unless your current one is found to be defective. Sometimes it's almost less expensive to replace the phone.'
asdf098 replies:
'Yes Batteries die. My recomendation for replacement battery would be to try the following in the order or priority1. See warranty. If under warranty cingular may be able to swap out the battery with new at store (I know sprint provides its own warranty and used to do this)2. Contact manufacturer for warranty (if still in warranty).3. Contact cingular, thell them you need a new phone or a battery, since otherwise you cannot use the service, they may just make an exception and give you the phone or battery.4. Buy battery on Ebay... Make sure you buy new OEM only.'

asks:
"My husband is insisting that his cell phone battery goes completely dead when he is in a particular place. Is this possible? It holds a charge fine at all other times--for 2-3 days easily when fully charged --but dies within 4-6 hours even after a full charge when he goes to work. At first I thought maybe he was accidentally turning the camera on in his pocket so he has been leaving it in his car and it still goes dead while he's at work -teacher at a high school. Any ideas? Thanks!"
llcentlous replies:
'depending on what service provider you have, yes. If you are with Verizon, and not on their tower system, you are pulling an analog system, therefore you are chewing up more battery power... I have this problem all the time with my Verizon phone. Also Cingular and Cellone have similar problems, though theirs it is much more obvious you are pulling an Analog signal (than it is with Verizon) so you could more easily reduce wasting battery power by whatching for that (A) signal in the corner of your phone or for the (D) signal to be gone... and shut your phone off during these times to save battery power.'
grapelady911 replies:
'there are nights when my cell phone dies just from sitting in the dispatch center next to me, other nights its fine. I am sure mine dies from all the electrical equipment around me... it cant find a signal so it drains the battery searching for a signal.I come into work with a full charge too...other nights I dont have any probelm, strange, but true for me.'
Brian C replies:
'Yes, it is definitely possible. This happens to my cellphone when I am at work. If my cellphone is in my locker in the center of the building it doesn't receive a signal and it will constantly look for one. Not only does this kill the battery it makes my phone really hot.'
Mike M replies:
'No. Location cannot cause discharge. It is interesting that this is happening but there must be a relationship to usage.'
needhelp replies:
'well i guess mayb leaving it the car ... the heat drains out the batt... tt y it cant stand for long... i doubt tt certain plcs can drain his batt... unless his high sch has like high heat or voltage tt cld drain out.... not too sure ... does he chrg it in his car>?? if so s'times it mite be due to his charger...i think u cld get better advice from a cell phone shop... they shld be well aware....good luck gal.. :)'

asks:
"I have heard that should only charge it when it is dead, is this true? What else can I do to ensure my cell phone battery LASTS?"
Rc replies:
'At night turn your phone off and hook it up to your charger. Of course, turn it back on in the morning.'
chickey_soup replies:
'Turn on the energy save option, turn off when you can.You can charge the battery when it isn't 'dead' but you should let it run all the way down periodically and charge it.I have yet to have to buy a new battery before a new phone : )'
pathfinder replies:
'You have to charge the thing practically every night, if you want to do any real talking on it during the day. A full charge does not last very long , if you keep yakking on the phone.'
B D replies:
'The old charging when the battery is dead thing was for old Nickel Cadium batteries... the new Nickel Medal-hydryde (sp) batteries do not have battery memory... so you can charge it any time.To make your battery last, dont expose it to high temperatures (like leaving it in your car), FULLY charge it each time you charge it, and dont use your phone as much... ;p'
bigm replies:
'Keep your calls short and sweet..Don't talk while driving and only make calls that are useful , not wasteful...'
abvbfdtjnsaeg replies:
'Yes. Ive heard that too. On some phones you can change settings to perseve the battery like turning the backlight off...ect..If you have a mp3 or camera on your phone using those makes the battery go down faster too.'
arun m replies:
'get the details from the site'
coco replies:
'It doesn't matter if you leave it on while plugged in. Current model phones have 'smartchips' that don't let the phone overcharge. How to conserve battery life when using it:- turn down the screen brightless- shorten the backlight timer- turn off EVDO- don't leave java applications (games, etc.) open or in use for a long time if you plan to talk on the phone later and don't have the charger handyPhone batteries naturally degrade over time and the talk time shortens. There is no way to prevent this.'

"The battery only works for 20 hours; then, it dies out, and I need to charge it again. What should I do so that my cell phone battery will work for more days?"
ambalam06 replies:
'only thing you can do is turn the phone off. or buy one of those super batteries'
Amit replies:
'the best way to maintain battery life is to recharge only when the battery dies out completely. Another way is to turn off vibrator mode.'
