mom2ashley replies: 'I have an LG 8100. If you purchase a memory card, you can put music on your cell and listen to it like an ipod. Not sure if it will then transfer to your ring tone, but I imagine it would. I haven't bought the card yet, but I plan on it. The LG 8100 is a great phone.'
K*lane replies: 'Only a few version allow you to do that. They figured out that they were losing money for ringtones by allowing this. Now the settings only allow you to record things under the sounds option which does NOT allow you to use it as a ringtone but only through text messaging. I am not sure what version do allow you to do that, some of the new ones may, so just do your research asking people what phone exactly does that. The Lg5200, Lg6000, and Lg8000 do not. I have had those phones and they suck. Overall LG started as kind of a cheap brand not very good. It doesnt pull service as well as other phones. It is getting better though but still is not the quality product that motorola can provide (they can pull service out of the middle of a cave). Go for the latest version of LG if you must so you are getting the best quality. I hear the chocolate (which is infact made by lg) is very good. But if the ringtone thing is your only reason to buy an LG its probably not worth it. You will spend the money you would have on ringtones on buying a new phone. The LGs my parents have gotten me since i was in high school have never lasted the 2 year contract period and I scramble to find a new phone with out paying a ton.'

Jeffrey C replies: 'Only specific phones allow you to show text messages on the front display of the phone. Unfortunately the LG vx8300 does not because the front screen is not big enough. There is no way to make the current 8300 show the contents of your text message.The vx8000, and 8600 do have this feature.'

Pastinky replies: 'I think it's all depends on how the phone is made. I had an LG VX7000 & had no problems at all with reception, quality. I upgraded to a Motorola V3m Razr and I have the same great reception, etc. My daughter had an LG VX6100 and upgraded to an LG Chocolate and both phones were absolutely great!Now someone at my work upgraded from a Nokia to an LG (don't know the model) but it was a flip phone and very cheap and it got crappy reception out where he lived and inside the shop we work in, he ended up switching back to his Nokia as it got the reception he needed.My mother has a Samsung flip phone and it get's great reception as well.Again, it depends on the phone, how cheaply it may have been made, etc. In other words, if it's made cheaply then it more than likely won't work as well. Just my experiences and what I've seen with other peoples experiences as well.Hope this helps!'
asdf098 replies: 'I found this to be true. I have Razr V3m and VX8300. I have also used motorolla v276 in the past. Form this I know that motorolla phones are slightly difficult to use than LG. LG interface is good, functionality is at your finger tips.They have good reception also.'
